father has cancer and is losing weight could marijuana be the answer?
My Father has lung cancer and is taking morphine for his pain, he is down to about 103 lbs which is not good. As you know medical marijuana has recently been legalized in michigan. But using marijuana can increase your appetite. Now i know that smoking is not good for lungs but at this point does it really matter??? We are looking for short-term improvements on his health. Do you guys think if we asked his Doctor he might have a chance at getting marijuana for his pain .

I’m sorry this is happening to your dad and your family.
My dad passed away last year from lung & eventually skeletal cancer.
I don’t know if his smoking would be the best. My dad had so much trouble with breathing in general, but also he was producing so much phlegm he’d choke on it & end up vomiting.
Definitely talk with his doctor about any questions you have. Get advice from a nutritionist.
If he’s not drinking them, try and get him drinking the Ensure shakes. At least it’s something.

or make a tea. smoking will probably be too painful.

Since his cancer is in his lungs, he would actually do better to use marinol rather than actual marijauan. But YES, it can help weight and give apetite. Smoking being bad does matter as I bet he is having a hard time breathing. But, if he wants to smoke, go right on ahead. If he does it without a script, make sure the doc knows. He will need to be on prophalactic antibiotics and anti fungals to use real marijuana. Since marijuana is grown, it naturally contains bacteria and fungi. That would be bad, another reason why marinol would be better for him. If he does use real marijuana, perhaps using in food would be better than smoking.
