Why are so many cats so proned to getting cancer? Any vets out there?
I work at a retirement community, and we had a vet clinic, and 3 cats had cancer. Then, I was talking to my aunt, and she has to put her old kitty down because he has cancer. It just seems like all cats have cancer! Is there anything you can do to prevent it? I feed my cat only holistic (100% natural) cat food, and white tuna in a can (like the one us people eat) only once in a while. So, just wondering, if feeding them better food and stuff will help prevent them from getting cancer.

Prostate Cancer Treatment Options
I have a 13 year old cat with bladder cancer and run a Yahoo group for that particular rare cancer in cats. I have been “polling” members for over two years now and there does not seem to be any one factor responsible for the cancer.
I had a neutered male cat who died of mammary cancer five years ago when he was twelve. Also a rescue cat of 17 died of oral cancer last November.
I had a cat who died at 22+ and she never had any cancer. She did eat a totally raw meat, home-prepared diet for the seven years she was in my home.
The incidence may seem higher as the veterinary community is seeing and treating more cats and dogs with cancer. The success rate for that is as discouraging as it is for the many forms of human cancer.
It will take many years for the long-term studies to be done (if they ever are) to determine the “cause” of these deaths.
Prostate Cancer Treatment Options
My cat was put to sleep in decemeber at 8 1/2 because she had a sarcoma form of cancer! It just appeared out of nowhere. My cat was overweight too and I thought maybe this was something I did by not putting her on a diet but my vet reassured me that there wasn’t anything I did wrong nor that I could do at that time. I really don’t know why they get it so much.
