That is to say, food like proteins, fats, and carbohydrates would not be digested properly. Usually when that happens bacteria later down the pike will do the digesting and gas, bloating, abdominal pain, and diarreha result. I do not know if the incidence of ulcers would be greater in the duodenum if bicarbonate was not secreted as much, but my guess is that is would be the case.
