Is it possible to not get sick from heavy drinking or smoking?

Okay, so my grandpa smoked and drank his whole life. This man would drink mad dog 20/20 and smoke a pack a day of Marlboro reds. He lived untill he was 89 and he died of natural causes. He didn’t have cancer, diabetes or any other illness. Are some people’s immune systems just that good? I mean, I’m pretty sure that his crazy rants about him getting a glass eye from Europe were due to his excessive drinking but other than mild mental disturbances, he was okay from everything else.

It’s impossible to escape with no side effects, like general poor health, breathing difficulties, a susceptibility to minor infections such as colds, or poor teeth and skin condition.
Some people, however, just have very fortunate genes, that makes them get away with what would otherwise trigger cancers, heart disease and other problems in any other individual.
My Grandma lived off a fairly simple old-school diet and far too many cups of tea, hardly any fruit or veg, no exercise etc, but lived to 98. My grandparents on the other side of the family however had a very similar lifestyle and both died in their 60s. If they had lived more healthily they probably could have added years to their life. My very old grandma, on the hand, probably couldn’t have lived EVEN longer, she was just lucky!

yes from both drinking and smoking one of my best friends had caught lung cancer and was hospitalized from drinking so heavily DNT SMOKE N DRINK its bad 4 u

I think every human is different in that respect. I’ve had several friends who drank like fish and smoked like a chimney and the minute they cleaned up their act they had a heart attack!

Is it possible to not get sick from heavy drinking or smoking? Yes if you die the next day. Problem solved. Most people can’t do this on a daily basis. There are some people who are born with a very healthy body and mind. They live forever or so it seems. Most of us aren’t that lucky.

Some older people have lived to their ripe old ages in spite of smoking and drinking for a few reasons. First, they may have good genes. Second, the quality of food and diets were much better in the past. Not as many or any pesticides were used in farming, more home-cooked meals were served and people ate more fruits and vegetables than they do today. Third, the quality of air and water were better. Older people had a more solid health foundation as young people before starting smoking and drinking.
