I am 20 and am scared to death.please help?
I just found out today that some test results show that i have abnormal cells in my uterus and on my cervix. I feel stupid asking this because i am going to school for Medical Assistant, but they want to do more tests on me over the next three months. I dont understand 1) why over three months? If it is cancer or whatever wouldnt they want to get it fixed sooner than that?. and 2) could this be the reason i haven’t gotten pregnant? My husband and i have been trying for a year and a half. I am so scared i will never have a child. And if they have to remove those cells, will I be able to get pregnant? Please help. Only serious answers Please.

Lung Cancer
A friend of mine had abnormal cells when tested but she went back and it was normal. She has a healthy beautiful daughter too. Did you have *** before you went to the gyno? That can give false results.

They want to test you over the three months so as to see how the cells progress and if they make any changes. Yes, they do want to catch it as quickly as possible if it is cancer, but they also want to make sure that they treat you correctly and not jump to conclusions…scary waiting period time…I know.
It could be a reason you are having trouble getting pregnant, but it might not be. A year and a half isn’t a terribly long time to have tried to get pregnant (I know it seems like forever…). You might want to ask your doctor about his thoughts on getting pregnant. He might be able to do additional tests on you and your husband. The problem might be in your husband, not in you.
If they do remove those cells, you should be able to get pregnant provided there aren’t other complications. It all depends on how many cells and where their exact location is.
Best thing for you to do, is ask your doctor a lot of questions and make sure he understands your concern. Make sure he explains everything to you so that you don’t have a doubt in your mind. Also, just calm down. Take some deep breathes and focus on other things. Stress has been found to actually speed up the progression of cancer (and possibly even cause it in some cases) so the last thing you need right now is a stressed immune system.
I sincerely hope everything turns out to be okay for you…but if it doesn’t, do not let it ruin your life. With being so young you will be able to recover from any surgery much easier than someone in their 50’s.
Good luck!

My daughter had the same problem…it did turn out to be cancer…but it was removed early with no problems. It could have been caused by HPV….and could effect future births. Not always…so don’t freak out. I also had some friends trying, and trying to have kids…fact is they were trying too hard. Calm down relax and have fun doing it…once the stress of trying goes away….something else will pop up….a BABY !!

Abnormal cells aren’t necessarily cancer. It could be your body fighting off a bacteria or even left over ***** in your reproductive tract. They want to check you over the next three months to see if the abnormal cells go away, get worse, or stay the same. They will probably also check for malignancy at some point, depending on the changes, or lack thereof.
It may be affecting your fertility, but it may not be. There’s no way to know for sure until they’ve done more testing. Have you done ovulation testing? Has your husband’s ***** count been tested? There are many many variables involved in this.
Is this your first pap smear ever? If so, you should have had a full gynecological exam before you started trying to get pregnant, to ensure the health of your future baby(ies) and of yourself!
Just consider this the first step and take it from there. No need to be overly concerned — simply follow your doctor’s directions and keep up to date with all follow-up appointments. That’s all you can really do!

I wish I could answer more but here goes. I knew a girl in high school who had abnormal cervical cells. She had her cervix frozen. She went on to have a beautiful boy.

Personnally I would go immediately to my OB-GYN dr.
Yes they do serial testing to make sure it was not a false positive. But as I said go to OB/GYN ASAP they are better able to answer all your questions and concerns
Unsure of why you haven’t been able to get pregnant-this is not usually the cause.
Even after treatment- which is simple unless advanced cancer- you can get pregnant. My foster daughter did after hers
