Skin Conditions Archives

Kirsty L asked:

I have a mole on my stomach which has changed in appearance, it used to be raised and is now flat, it also has uneven edges and has a red/pink ring around it. It has been like this for a while as I kept forgetting about it. It doesnt itch and is not sore or irritating. I have a appointment with the doctor on Friday but after looking into it on the internet am getting really worried, are there any other signs of skin cancer I should be looking out for?

What does sunburn have to do with skin cancer?

bland asked:

I’ve heard having a bad sunburn can increase your chances of having skin cancer by so much. How much? Also, other things about sunburn releated to skin cancer. Thanks in advance for your help.

Is it possible to have a skin cancer on the head that goes away. I have a small spot on my scalp that hurts to the touch, but there is nothing visible. I am balding and I occasionally I will get pimple like things on my head from sweating, etc. I don’t remember if I had a pimple in this exact location, but it is possible.

Does this mean I have skin cancer?

gorgeous♥ asked:

I’ve been tanning this summer. Recently, I’ve noticed these white patches of skin. One is on my cheek, and there are two on my stomach. There is also a dark one on my shin. None of them are very visible, unless you’re really looking at them.

I did some research online, and I think I may have destroyed some melanocytes, which are your melanin (aka:pigment)-producing cells. Apparently, the sun can do two things to your melanocytes: enlarge them to create freckles, or destroy them to create uneven pigmentation, such as white spots.

I think this may be my problem. It isn’t skin cancer, is it? And is it permanent? How can I treat it?
