Lung Cancer Risk for my husband, age 30, smoking for 20 years? GP help appreciated?
My husband is 30 and he’s been smoking since he was a child. He dislikes doctors and traditional medicine and has practically never seen a GP. Although he appears healthy (good weight, strong built, athletic, rarely ever gets sick etc) he spits a lot and I hear a slight weezing sound when I put my head to his chest. A couple of weeks ago he had a cold and since then he’s been coughing all the time – his spit is clear so I don’t think it’s a chest infection. I am worried about him and would like him to see a doctor. Can he get screening on the NHS at this age? Also, how do the new rules about smokers affect him?
Thank you for your help
New rules about smokers – Gordon Brown has been talking about reducing health care for smokers and obese people because ‘they bring it upon themselves’. I don’t know if anything has been implemented yet.
