How long can you smoke until you get lung cancer?

loaded_n_ready asked:

Lots of people smoke without getting lung cancer. Plus smoking doesn’t cause other types of cancer. How long can I smoke until I get cancer? I figue I got 10 years of smoking that I can enjoy.
But all the cool celebs like Jennifer Aniston, Applegate and Swazye smoke. And they are all fine.

I know that green tea is very good as it is very high in anti-oxidants, but I haven’t been able to find of any other simple things that could be incorporated into a daily routine to reduce the chance of getting cancer. All you health experts out there please let me know of any other simple things one can do to reduce the chances of getting this terrible disease. (I already know the basics like exercise, eat well, get enough sleep etc..). Thanks you!

A family member has stage 4 lung cancer. He went through radiation on the brain and chemotherapy. Recent scans show that the cancer has shrunk and remained stable. However, the patient has recently become very confused, thin, and weak. The doctors insist that all of his symptoms are caused by the cancer. However, we are not so convinced. He is on many medications, including several very strong pain meds. The doctors think this is the end, and that his body could shut down anytime now. Are we in denial?

My mom has lung cancer and my way of dealing with it is to look at stories of other people who have had Lung cancer. I prefer not to read about survivors because the chance of that are so small i was to be prepared for what could happen. Also i wanted to know what it could be like if this takes a turn for the worse. So i was wondering where i could go to read other stories.
